An English man who put on a rubber Freddy Kreuger mask to gun down a gang rival in Dublin is facing life in prison.
Michael Barr, 35, was shot seven times – five times in the head – when a masked gang ambushed the Sunset House pub in April 2016.
The pub manager was a known dissident republican and the killing was part of the Hutch-Kinahan rivalry – a continuing bloody dispute between two criminal organisations in the Republic of Ireland that has resulted in the deaths of 20 people.
He was having a night off from work to attend a fundraiser for IRA prisoners’ wives when the murder took place.
On Friday, David Hunter, from Liverpool, was found guilty of the murder.
He is the third person to be convicted for that offence in connection with Mr Barr's death.
The 41-year-old killer will be handed the mandatory life jail term in November – and the victim's dad has called for him to serve his sentence in the ROI.
Colin Barr said after the verdict: "He [Hunter] was found guilty for all his lies. He came here from Liverpool to kill someone and skip back to Spain.
"Michael's son is here, his heart is broken.
"These boys need to know there are consequences for life, that they will have to pay a price.
"He left England to come here to murder an Irish man, he should not be sent home. He should be made to serve his sentence here."
The Liverpool Echo reports that Hunter was one of the masked gunmen who executed the Barr, entering the bar in boiler suits and rubber Freddy Krueger masks, and gunning him down.
The getaway car was torched by the gang, but in the charred remains, police found four guns, a burner phone and clothing including ski masks on the back seat.
Hunter's DNA was on the masks, but he insisted he'd travelled from Liverpool to Ireland 48 hours earlier to watch UB40, but the gig had already happened.
His stories told to police that he was trying to get to Spain to get rehab were waved away by officers, also by the judge in court.
Eamonn Cumberton, 32, has been previously been convicted of Mr Barr's murder.
